With crystal clear waters and colorful reefs full of tropical fish, you won’t want to miss out on this opportunity. Here are a few of our top options for snorkeling and scuba diving in Costa Rica.

1. Tortuga Island

Tortuga Island is about a one-hour boat ride to and from Ylang Ylang. The boat trip is almost as much fun as the swimming. You will enjoy the beautiful calm water and scenic views of the mountainous landscape. You just might spot some of our marine wildlife on the way, such as sea turtles, whales, dolphins and more. The boat tour will then include a stop at a nearby island for snorkeling in clean, turquoise water. Trips to Tortuga Island are a full day activity, the boat will depart at 9 a.m. and arrives back to the resort at 4 p.m.

2. Playa Grande

Playa Grande is a large beach located just south of Ylang Ylang Resort. It is a fun 25-minute walk through jungle paths and beaches before you finally arrive at this massive shoreline. Playa Grande is a great destination for snorkeling because of its calm waters. The best part: it is easily accessible and completely free!

3. Playa Las Manchas

Just south of Playa Grande is another beach called Playa Las Manchas. About a ten-minute drive from Ylang Ylang Resort, Playa Las Manchas is a great snorkeling spot due to the amount of rocks spread around the water. These rocks hold several species of fish as well as octopus, crustaceans, and more.

4. Tambor Bay

An afternoon trip to Tambor Bay is another great place for snorkeling and scuba diving in Costa Rica. The waters here are normally calm and warm year-round. The surface beneath the water is very rough with several reefs, drops, and canyons, which makes it a great spot for seeing fish. At night, you will

also have a chance to see the bioluminescence created by an algae bloom of plankton. Trips to Tambor Bay can support up to 12 people. The boat trip starts at 3 p.m. and ends at 7 p.m.
