In an effort to continue finding ways to be more considerate of our environment, we will no longer be serving plastic straws in our restaurants. As the rainy season has approached, we see more and more plastic washing up on our beaches. This is harmful to our beautiful surroundings and the sea life and animals that endure the hazards of millions of tons of plastic being thrown into the ocean each year. Please know that if you must use a straw, we will still have them available upon request, but will not be automatically serving them with our drinks. We challenge and encourage other members of our community to be more conscious of their plastic waste! We are hoping to encourage others to be a straw free restaurant in Costa Rica.
- Plastic constitutes 90% of floating trash
- Each day at least 500 million straws are used in just the United States
- Straws are one of the top 10 items picked up on beach cleanups
- 44% of all sea birds have ingested plastic
